We Fix The Problems With Content

ORIGIN
The Seed That Became A Mighty Oak

In the 1990s, Jeff Duncombe needed to record music onto cassette tape so it could be portable. He could find 90 minutes of music for a 90 minute tape. The problem was that the tape had two sides, and one side would always cut off the last song in the middle while the other side would have a couple minutes of dead air. He was playing around with some algorithms and wrote a program to tell him which side to put each song to have an equal amount of music on both sides. His first attempt took days to run, but he eventually optimized the code to finish in less than a second. And he made perfect tapes with this engine, optimizing on the time dimension.

BREAKTHROUGH
Dynamic Over Linear

The next few years allowed for the engine to expand and mature and then the breakthrough happened.

Digital content had a metaphor that made a lot of sense: physical dimensions. If you took digital content and gave it physical dimensions, then you could optimize those dimensions to create shows from tagged clips.

Using the dimensions of width, height, depth, and time, D4 Media was born. Its like if you had a pile of bricks and could tell us you wanted a house with one door and four windows and it was then built for you instantly.

PATENTS
Certified Original

In 2000 he was able to apply for four patents, which were eventually granted ( 6,430,582 -- 6,738,078 -- 6,792,573 and 6,813,745).

THE ENGINE
Dynamic Over Linear

The next few years The engine matured even more, and now multiple options for each dimension was now available.

The engine was now flexible enough to have multiple purposes. As an example, the Rolls Royce company first made a great engine, then used it in cars, boats, and airplanes. That is what we like to think we have -- a great engine that can support many solutions.
